Ethelyn Snow

Our loving mother returned to her loving Father in Heaven March 30, 2017, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community, having recently just celebrated her 99th birthday. As her health deteriorated over these last years, her children had the privilege of taking care of her. Ethelyn Green was born the daughter of Alvin S. Green and Elizabeth Ellen Hart January 12, 1918, in the small town of Rigby, Idaho. She had one older sister, Marian, two younger sisters, Elizabeth and Katheryn, and one younger brother, John. Her education years, grade school through high school, were accomplished in Rigby, graduating in 1935 with honors. She loved music, singing in choirs, playing the piano, acting in school plays and she played first chair clarinet in the Rigby School Band. After high school, she continued her education in California. She lived with her Uncle Dave and Aunt Dale Hart while attending and completing two years at Santa Maria College. Upon returning to Rigby, she met a good looking fellow her older sister, Marian, was dating. His name was DeVar Clark. After a short courtship, Ethelyn and DeVar married September 1, 1937, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They made their home in Rexburg, Idaho, and a year later moved to Idaho Falls. They were blessed with five children: Sally Ann (Bill) Lawrence, Robert DeVar Clark, Allan Green (Anita, deceased) Clark, Catherine Elizabeth Clark, and Marian Suzanne (Bart) Sargent. Their marriage dissolved in 1971. While playing in the Rigby Band, there was a young man who sat directly behind her and had a crush on Ethelyn. His name was Gilbert Snow and he loved to tease her by kicking the back of her chair during band practice. In 1972, he was in Salt Lake City, Utah, attending General Conference. Ethelyn had decided also to attend General Conference, and as fate would have it, they met and renewed old friendships. In 1972, Ethelyn and Gilbert were married and moved for a short time to Bakersfield, California, then moved to San Bernardino a year later. While living there, they were called to serve in the Los Angeles Temple as temple workers, a calling that lasted thirteen years. In 1996, Gilbert and Ethelyn moved to Idaho Falls, where they continued serving in the Idaho Falls Temple for three years. A very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, she held many Ward, Stake and Temple callings; two of her favorites were: teaching Gospel Doctrine class and directing the ward choir. Her whole life was devoted to her family and the Church. She is survived by her five children, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Ethelyn’s family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staff at Lincoln Court Retirement Community for the years of loving, compassionate care given to Ethelyn during her stay; with a special thanks to those individuals who attended to her personal needs. Additional thanks to One Source Home Health & Hospice for their brief assistance during her final days. Flowers are appreciated, or memorial donations may be made to the John W. Hart Memorial Endowed Grant-in-Aid Fund (Account #30-687-188) at LDS Philanthropies, Attention: Janette Clark, Brigham Young University Idaho, 591 North 2nd East, Rexburg, ID 83460-1655. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 1-1:45 p.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery, west of Rigby, following the services.
