Ethel Eunice Smith Rasmussen was born November 24, 1922, in Pocatello, Bannock, Idaho, to Frank Harold Smith and Bertha Augusta Krueger Smith. Ethel graduated from this earthly life, Thursday, August 13, 2020, at the age of 97, due to complications of pneumonia at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Bonneville, Idaho.
Ethel met Robert LeRoy Rasmussen on a blind date dance. Ethel and LeRoy were sealed for time and all eternity, June 25, 1947, in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ethel and LeRoy lived in Idaho Falls, Bonneville, Idaho. For many years they worked together in their rental business and their beautiful rose garden. Their Golden Memories Collection was outstanding.
They had seven children, four boys and three girls, Leland, Lindel (deceased), Linda Lee, Lenice (deceased), Lorna Beth, David Lowell, and Larry. Ethel was first and foremost a wife and mother.
Ethel graduated from Pocatello High School in 1940. She attended Idaho Southern University (now Idaho State University) and Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University). During World War II, she worked as an auditor at the Pocatello Army Air Force Base. She then returned to USAC and graduated in 1945, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. Ethel spent a year in Boston taking an internship in dietetics at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. She accepted the position of dietitian at the Idaho Falls LDS Hospital in July 1946. Ethel enjoyed the opportunity to serve in the community at the election polls for more than 35 years; the school system in the Parent Teacher Organization and the Library at Riverside Elementary School; and as a substitute newspaper carrier mother for 20 years.
Ethel was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings. She found great fulfillment in her calling as a Service Missionary at the Idaho Falls Regional Family History Center in her late eighties and early nineties.
Ethel and LeRoy enjoyed taking stateside tours, overseas tours, and attending religion classes.
LeRoy graduated from this earthly life December 18, 2010, leaving Ethel and posterity to continue the journey.
Ethel is survived by her children, Leland S. (Lee) Rasmussen (Jean Frandsen), Linda Lee Rasmussen Shaw (Lowell F Shaw), Lorna Beth Rasmussen Johnson (Calvin O. Johnson), David Lowell Rasmussen (Lilli), and Larry L. Rasmussen (Lori Haner), 26 grandchildren, 32 plus great grandchildren, and sister, Jo Ann Smith Curtis.
