Esther Johnson

Esther Tashjian Johnson, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 2, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Esther was born May 12, 1926, in Newton, Massachusetts, to Armenian immigrants Hagop Tashjian and Veronica Sarkisian Tashjian. She attended schools in Newton, where she graduated from Newton High School in 1944. She also earned her Associates Degree at Lasell College in Newton. On _April 14, 1956 she married Albert C. Johnson in Colombo, Ceylon(Sri-Lanka) and they were later divorced. Over the years Esther worked in Jewelry Sales; Landscaping for the City of Idaho Falls; as a NK Lawn and Garden Distributor; Real Estate Appraiser; and a secretary at Argonne National Lab West for 23 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Esther was a master gardener and enjoyed classical music, especially Brahms, opera, traveling, cooking, tennis, antiques, and was an avid reader. Esther was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer, working with abused children, and worked with the Shop with a Cop Program. Of all these things she loved being a grandparent most. Our Mom, Esther, was the most amazing woman we know. Well traveled, an amazing gardener, an indescribable grandmother, the most generous friend, sister, and mother – the hats this woman wore were endless. Anyone who knows our Mom knows that no matter what was troubling her heart, she had an unending capacity to care more about others than she did about herself. Mom loved, cared for, nourished, and truly cherished those that God placed in her life. Esther is survived by her daughter, Andrea Eliana of Albuquerque, NM; son, David Johnson of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Eleanor Elmendorf of Medford, NJ; sister, Betty Nystrom of Arlington Heights, IL; sister, Helen Healy of Lexington, MA; granddaughter, Kaili Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; grandson, Chase Johnson of Idaho Falls, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Albert Tashjian, and a sister, Harriet Gagosian. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Idaho Falls Calvary Chapel, 4250 South 25th East, with Pastor Rick Brown officiating. Following the services light refreshments will be served in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery at a later date. &nbsp Born: May 12, 1926&nbsp Death: March 2, 2012
