Erva Evagne Olson Miller, 99, of Spring City, Utah, passed away March 23, 2025, at her home.
Erva was born July 17, 1925, in Afton, Wyoming, to George and Fanny Tippets Olson. Her mom passed away when she was 2 following a difficult delivery of her baby brother.
Life was difficult on a small farm, but her older sisters and brothers raised her to be a good young woman. Her father passed away when she was 14 and when she was 15 she left for Ogden, UT, where she rented an apartment with a cousin and finished school at Ogden High School.
She moved to Pocatello, ID to attend Idaho State University where she studied to become a school teacher. In 1949, she met and married Lloyd Dee Miller, who was finishing his Naval service. They moved to Washington state for a couple of years and then moved back to Lloyd’s hometown of Idaho Falls, ID.
After having their first three boys, she started teaching elementary school part time, and then went full time at Longfellow Elementary for a couple of years. She then spent about 25 years teaching at Edgemont Elementary. Another son was born in 1960.
She later returned to school and earned her Master’s Degree. She was an avid reader to her last week on Earth. There was always a couple of books around with book markers.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings and did her best to raise four boys to be good men. Following Lloyd’s death in 1994, she moved to St. George, UT for several years and then came to Sandy, UT to be closer to her sons. She spent a few years at Legacy Retirement Home in South Jordan, UT and then moved to Spring City, UT to live with her son and his wife where she ultimately passed away.
Many thanks to all of the good people who touched her life during this nearly 100 year journey.
Erva is survived by her four sons, Kim Miller of Arizonar, Kerry Miller of Tennessee, Gregory Miller of Idaho, and Jhan Miller of Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Fanny Olson; husband, Lloyd Miller; sister, Wanda Nebeker; and an infant brother.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, 4600 S. Yellowstone Hwy, Idaho Falls.
