Ernestine Cowley

Ernestine Archibald Morris Cowley returned happily to our Heavenly Father on May 5, 2012, in Draper, Utah. She was born April 26, 1919, to John William Archibald and Ossie Pearl Tuck Archibald in Teton, Idaho. She had one sister, Ilta Archibald Moffat. When she was 5 years old, she and her family moved to Victor, Idaho. Growing up on a farm, Ernestine learned to be a hard worker, milking cows, stacking hay, and rounding up the cows in the evening. As a young girl, she left the Teton Valley to pursue her education to become self supporting. She attended beauty school in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Soon after, she found work in St. Anthony, Idaho. In 1942, Ernestine married Dean Secrist. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a pilot of a B17 bomber. His plane was shot down over Germany in 1944. They had one daughter, DeAnne Secrist Smith. Ernestine moved to Pocatello in 1945. There she met James Delos (Dee) Morris and they married in 1948. Dee passed away on December 20, 1971. They had three children, Sandra Lee Borg, James Delos Morris Jr., and William Don Morris. In 1988, Ernestine married Bernard Price, who died of cancer in 1992. She married Evan Cowley in 1993. They had the time of their lives, traveling extensively and seeing many sites, such as LDS church history tours, Hawaii, Branson, Missouri, San Diego, Boston and Canada, and visiting as many temples as they could. Evan passed away October 20, 2010, having enjoyed 17 years of their golden years together. Ernestine spent many years in service to others. In 1980, she was called as an ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She served there for 22 years. Ernestine also spent many years doing Spanish name extraction work for the LDS Church. She also served in many positions in the Relief Society and served as Relief Society President. Survivors include her two daughters, DeAnne (Theodore) Secrist Smith of Fairfield, CA, Sandra L. (Don) Morris Borg of Murray, UT; two sons, James D. Morris of Reno, NV, William D. Morris of Spanish Fork, UT; granddaughters, Teri (Glenn) Smith Overman of Fairfield, CA, Tracie Smith Jackson of Fairfield, CA, Jilline (Daniel) Smith Maynes of Provo, UT, Johanna (Danny) Walker Leavitt of Pocatello, ID, Corrine (Kevin) Walker Bell of Eugene, OR, Amber Morris Reid of Las Vegas, NV, Jessica (Tim) Morris Clausen; grandsons, Jason (Kirsten) Walker of Bellingham, WA, Ryan Smith of Truckee, CA, Kyle Walker of Salt Lake City, UT; 25 great-grandchildren; Evan's children, Pat (Earl) Cowley Holyoak, Donna (Dean) Cowley Boyce, Dean (Mary) Cowley, and Linda (Steve) Cowley Hobbs, all of Idaho Falls; 14 step-grandchildren; and 28 step-great-grandchildren.
