Ernest (Tobe) Smith

ERNEST "TOBE" SMITH IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Ernest Junior Smith, 83, of Idaho Falls, died July 30, 2007, at Life Care Center. He was born October 27, 1923, at Fishhaven, Idaho, to Earnest Raymond Smith and Myrtle Winnifred Christensen Smith. He was raised and worked on a farm. He attended schools in the area, graduating from Fielding High School in Paris, Idaho. He also attended a government school in Weiser, Idaho. He served in the U. S. Navy as a Seaman First Class during World War II. During his time in the service he earned the Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. On December 16, 1942, he married Clara Maxine Brown in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on September 11, 1946. She preceded him in death in 2001. He was a firefighter for 40 years and also trained as a Emergency Medical Technician with the Idaho Falls Fire Department, where he served as a Captain before his retirement. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held the office of High Priest. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. The love of his life was his wife, Maxine, whom he met while attending school in Weiser. Survivors include: Daughter: Linda Jensen, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Loraine Smith Uttich, Idaho Falls, ID Son: J Kendell (Sheila Karr) Smith, Moscow, ID Son: Raymond Ernest (Leslie French) Smith, Platte City, MO Brother: Don Smith, Ogden, UT Sister: Merlynn Pitcher, Smithfield, UT 9 Grandchildren, 4 Step Grandchildren, & 8 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers, three sisters, and a grandson, Shawn Uttich. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2007, at the Idaho Falls LDS Central Stake Center, 2025 Jennie Lee Drive, under the direction of Bishop Nathan Smith of the Idaho Falls LDS 3rd Ward. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, and on Saturday from 12 Noon until 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park with military rites performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team. --------------------------------------
