Ermal Ray Thompson, 82, of Idaho Falls, died September 18, 2015, with his family by his side in Idaho Falls. Idaho. Ermal was born July 13, 1933, in Driggs, Idaho to Alden Thompson and Ruth Caldwell Thompson. He attended school in Tetonia, Driggs and at ISU. He then served in the U.S. Army and upon his return from his service, married Shirley Lou Livermore on September 25, 1954, in Elko, Nevada.
He loved working in the auto body and mechanic industry. He began his career working for Ray E. Lundal Co. until he opened his own business Ermal's Auto Body and Service Center in 1972. Ermal and Shirley raised their children in Ammon and enjoyed spending their family time camping and fishing together. After retirement they spent happy days at their cabin in Palisades. Shirley passed away in 1993.
On January 20, 1995, Ermal married Farice Gravatt Thompson. Together they enjoyed spending winters at their home in Arizona and traveling abroad. Ermal always loved people. He never met a stranger he couldn't strike up a conversation with. Ermal treasured his time playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a lover of the outdoors and will always be remembered for his ability to make others laugh and for having a grin that could light up a room.
Survivors include his wife, Farice Thompson; children, Dennis (Kelley) Thompson, Rod (Kristi) Thompson, Brenda (Dwight) Hansen, Alden Brent (Kerri) Thompson; one brother Blaine (Winnie) Thompson; five sisters: Dorothy (Lynn) Skidmore, Teresa (Les) Wixom; Patsy (Dennis) Reynolds; Eula (Boyd) Endecott, Kelly Sue (David) Miller; Grandchildren Jeremy (Angie) Thompson, Adam (Karena) Thompson, Shalee (Dave) Bergeson, Tanner (Cheradan) Thompson, Lindsday (Scott) Bischoff, Brooklyn (Chase) Rasmussen, Tyler Marie (CJ) Griffin and 17 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alden and Ruth Thompson; a brother, Charles Thompson and his wife, Shirley Lou Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday September 24th at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon). The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services, both at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls. Military rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
