Emma Tweedie

Emma Amanda Harper Tweedie, 103, of Idaho Falls, passed away February 15, 2011, at Fairwinds Retirement Community. Emma was born April 23, 1907, in Moore, Idaho, to Chester Alfred Harper and Amanda Ellen Herbst Harper. She grew up and attended schools in the area, graduating from Moore High School in 1926. She then attended Ricks Academy in Rexburg, where she graduated with an Associates Degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school in different locations for 10 years. On May 28, 1936, she married David Orten Tweedie in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They lived in Clayton, Idaho, for five years before returning to Moore. In 1983, they sold the farm and moved to Ririe. Fairwinds Retirement Center has been her home since 2003. Emma worked at the Butte County Fair every fall for 23 years. She also served as a member of the Lost River Hospital Auxiliary quilting as a Pink Lady. For 21 years, she served as a 4-H leader, teaching sewing to girls. Emma is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many callings, including Primary Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, and as a member of the Relief Society Presidency. She enjoyed making afghans – one for each of her ten grandchildren; and planting and growing a garden, which she did until about a year before leaving Ririe. Survivors are: Daughter: Kay Laughlin of Ririe, ID Daughter: Nyna (Ronnie) Moss of Rexburg, ID Son: Keith (Alice) Tweedie of Dubois, ID 10 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, LeRoy and Edwin; three sisters, Lavina, Anna and Mary; and two grandsons, Kyle and Scott. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, with Bishop Sheldon Dance of the Idaho Falls LDS Crestwood Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to the services at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Fairwinds-Sandcreek Retirement Center, 3310 Valencia Drive, Idaho Falls, ID 83404.

The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
