Emily Elsberry

Click Here To View Memorial Video Emily Cheney Elsberry returned to her loving heavenly home and family early in the morning of July 9, 2013, just a few days short of her 89th birthday. Her death was a result of a long term illness and incidents of age. Born on July 31,1924, to Rosina Esther Leighty and Stoyel Elijah Cheney in Burley, Idaho the 8th of 9 children. She was 2 years old when her family moved to Emmett, Idaho where they lived in a 2 bedroom home built for her mother. Her father died here shortly after their move and Emily grew up not knowing her father except from the things her mother told her about him. She grew up learning to do all the chores necessary to support a family in a rural community. She was always a "hard worker" at home, as well as, working in the meat plant with her husband. She retired from her employment at Basic American Food. She attended Wardwell School through the 8th grade and attended Emmett High School through the 11th grade, always regretting that she didn't graduate from High School. She met her future husband when she was 10 years old and Claude was 14. He taught her to ride a bicycle in the pastures between their homes. They were married April 25,1941, and in 1979, they were sealed for Time and all Eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. Six children were born to this union: Sharon, Artie, Larry (deceased), Gary, Cheryl, and Terry (deceased). Her hobbies were sewing, fancy handwork, working in her flowers and gardens. She loved cooking, baking and making candy which she shared with many friend, neighbors and family. She was an avid reader but her greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved her little buddy "Toby" and spent many hours loving him. Emily was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and received much joy working in Idaho Falls Temple. She loved every opportunity to serve and shared her love and talents as she tried to magnify her callings. She is survived by 1 sister; Pearl Robinson, Emmett, Idaho; children, Sharon Bahr, Idaho Falls, ID; Artie (Norm) Harris; Portland, OR; Gary (Kaly) Elsberry, Peoria, AZ; Cheryl (Harvey) Nelson, Terreton, ID; daughter-in-law, Shauna, Kaysville, UT; 18 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; two sons; Larry Elsberry, Terry Elsberry. Mom we are thankful and grateful for all the teachings and love that you have given us. We will always love and remember you. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Idaho Falls LDS 18th Ward, 1200 Dunbar, with Bishop Shawn Orgill officiating.
