Elwyn Arthur Meyer, 95, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 10, 2017, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Elwyn was born February 2, 1922, in Granite City, Illinois, to Fred Meyer and Mata Link Meyer. He grew up and attended schools in Granite City and graduated from Granite City High School. He also attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he received his Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew as a First Lieutenant Navigator on D-Day. On January 21, 1945, he married June Gerrard in Granite City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 19, 1980. To this union were born two children, Richard and Cheryl. Elwyn and June made their home in Granite City for 45 years where Elwyn worked as a mechanical engineer for Emerson Electric. They then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Bishop of the Edwardsville, Illinois Ward, and was a member of the High Priest’s Quorum. He enjoyed woodworking and built many full-size motor boats. He invented various things and had several U.S. patents in his name while working for Emerson Electric. Elwyn is survived by his son, Richard Meyer of Bunker Hill, IL, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, June Meyer, daughter, Cheryl Owen, one sister and two brothers. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Taylor Cemetery with Bishop Mike Griffin of the Idaho Falls LDS Summerfield Ward officiating.
