ELVA MARIE WOOD
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- To live for one hundred years is a remarkable
feat! To live to be 100 years old filled with graciousness and a loving spirit
toward all of humanity is a wonderful and inspiring legacy. Elva Marie Wood’s
positive influence in our lives will last an eternity. Marie returned to her
Heavenly Father on April 6, 2005.
Marie was born September 28, 1904, in Sharon, Idaho to Ellen
Elizabeth Neibaur Lyon and John William Lyon. She was the third of 13 children.
Marie was born into a musical family where she enjoyed playing the piano,
singing and playing the harmonica. Marie kept her harmonica close at hand
right up to the time of her passing. She sang in the Third Ward Choir for
40 years. Marie loved to share her memories of life in the Bear Lake Valley
during the early 1900's. Riding her horse to school, to church, and to do
her chores was an integral part of her daily life. She loved going down to
the creek every day to get water for the family household.
On February 4, 1932, Marie married Ray H. Wood, also from
the Bear Lake Valley, in the Logan LDS Temple. In 1937, they moved to Idaho
Falls. For over 30 years, Marie and Ray and their growing family divided their
time between Idaho Falls and Hailey, Idaho as Ray pursued a career in the
livestock business. Marie was a devoted mother to four children and a dedicated
homemaker. She enjoyed “mixing” bread, making jams, canning peaches
and apricots, and making chili sauce from her home grown tomatoes. Filled
with Marie’s love, these tasty treats were often treasured gifts given
to her family, neighbors and friends. Marie found joy and happiness in tending
to her beautiful rose garden. She was a good neighbor to those who lived near
her for over 60 years on 11th Street. Marie was a devout member of The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Ray H. Wood,
her son, Robert Lyon Wood and her daughter, Marilyn Wood.
Survivors include children, LaRae Lyman of Bishop, California,
William Wood of Salt Lake City, Utah, sister, Thelma Clark of Paul, Idaho,
four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April
15, 2005, at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge Ave.) in Idaho Falls. The family
will visit with friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be
in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
