Our dear “Oma”, Ellenor Martha Johanna Schroedter Guynn, age 91, passed peacefully on March 27, 2025, at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living Community, Idaho Falls, surrounded by family and friends.
Ellenor was born August 6, 1933 in Salt Lake City, Utah; the 2nd of 3 children, to Richard and Dorle Schroedter. The family moved to California when Ellenor was 5 years old. She attended school in South Gate and in high school, Ellenor majored in Business where she excelled in shorthand. She was a Ramblerette on the South Gate High School drill team. Upon graduation, at the age of 17, Ellenor married Donald Arthur Guynn on June 25, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When asked about her young age at marriage, Ellenor would say: “We were more mature in those days!”
Don & Ellenor lived in their home on Lillian Lane in South Gate for 40 years and raised a daughter and 3 sons. Ellenor enjoyed parenting and serving in the Downey 2nd Ward, South Los Angeles Stake.
In 1977, “Ellenor” joyfully became “Oma” with the birth of the first of 22 grandchildren. Oma loved everything about being a grandmother. Over the years Ellenor enjoyed jogging in the early morning with Don, sewing items for children and grandchildren, quilting, baking apple pies, and making cookies at 5 am to include in sack lunches for her children. The beaches of Laguna and Corona Del Mar were Ellenor and Don’s favorites. Ellenor was employed by Bechtel Power and appreciated the ambience there. When Don & Ellenor retired, they moved to Idaho Falls to be near grandchildren. Together, they served a Family History Mission to Innsbruck, Austria and as ordinance workers in the Idaho Falls Temple. At the Idaho Falls Humanitarian Center, Ellenor and friend, Lorraine, tied quilts once a week for 8 years (approximately 350 quilts!).
Ellenor is survived by daughter, Deborah (Russell) Burt of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sons, Steven (Jeannette) Guynn of Deer Mountain, Utah, Randall (Robin) Guynn of Naples, Florida and Park City, Utah, John (Jessica) Guynn of SLC, Utah; and sister, Dorothy (Tom) Tall of Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Oma enjoyed a posterity of 22 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don, and brother, Leonhardt (Neva) Schroedter.
Ellenor’s family would like to thank the Caregivers at Parkwood Meadows and Aspen Home Health and Hospice for their kind and gentle care given to our mother. Services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 9th, at the Yale Ward, 1431 E. Gilmer Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah. Graveside service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, April 11th, at Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, Whittier, California.
