Ellen Carlson

Harriet Ellen Sommer Carlson, 95, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 26, 2010 at Fairwinds Retirement Community. Ellen was born September 17, 1915, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Edward Sommer and Alice Ethel Hendricks Sommer. She attended public schools in Hibbard and Rexburg. She obtained an Associate Degree from Ricks College. She married Alfred Holley Carlson on March 3, 1939 in Idaho Falls. They made their home in Idaho Falls. Ellen worked at a customer relations representative for First Security Bank for 34 years. Alfred preceded her in death on April 6, 1997. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed needlepoint and gardening. Survivors include: Brother: Nicholas Josiah “Jode” (Kathy) Sommer, Ramona, CA Brother: Etsel Edward Sommer, Idaho Falls, ID Brother: Jack (Emmeli) Sommer, Rexburg, ID She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Erma Cook, Hazel Willmore and Lillis Sommer. The family wishes to thank Qualicare Home Care, Solace Hospice, the staff and management at Fairwinds Retirement Community, and Dr. Flint R. Packer for the loving care they provided to Ellen. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue prior to departing to the cemetery.
