BETTY REED IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Elizabeth “Betty” Reed, 80, passed away, June 12, 2009 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice. She was born February 24, 1929, in Shelley, Idaho, to Ebenezer W. Morris and Elizabeth Risenmay Morris. She was raised in the Shelley area and attended Tayson Elementary and graduated from Shelley High School. She married Thomas Lockyer on August 14, 1948. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She then married Wesley J. Reed on November 29, 1968. She lived in Idaho Falls and the Lincoln area for the past 62 years. Betty worked as a school cook for District #93, where she developed many close friendships. She loved attending the National and State School Lunch Conventions. She enjoyed serving meals to the volunteers working on the Teton Dam Flood in 1976. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was a Young Women’s leader, taught in Primary, and worked with the Cub Scouts. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed walking, sewing, reading, shopping, camping, and bowling. Betty is survived by: Her husband: Wesley Reed of Idaho Falls, Daughter: Kathleen Ward of Idaho Falls; Daughter: Sharlene (Austin) Bishop-Ashby of Seattle, WA; Son: Preston Lockyer of Idaho Falls; Stepdaughter: Susan (B.H.) Blair of Madison, OH; Stepson: Jay W. Reed of West Yellowstone, MT; Sister: Merle Stringham of Idaho Falls; 8 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, 4 Step-Grandchildren, and 7 Step-Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Kent Lockyer, her parents, 13 brothers and sisters and a grandson. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 19 at the Idaho Falls LDS Lincoln First Ward, 3700 East Lincoln Road, with Bishop Chris Brown officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a .m. at the church.
