Elizabeth "Betsy" Louise Dean

Elizabeth “Betsy” Louise Dean, age 68, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021. Betsy was born June 16, 1953, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to proud parents, Gene and Helen Dean.

Betsy knew from an early age she wanted to be a nurse and set out on that path. In 1974, she graduated from Parkview Hospital School of Nursing and from there her career took off. She moved to Indianapolis and went to work at Riley Children's Hospital. She loved working in the neonatal unit there. She soon followed the Lee's, our family friends, to Idaho Falls, where she began a career in the neonatal unit at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, finishing her nursing career with Hospice of Eastern Idaho.

Betsy was a long time devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong faith and she lived it.

Betsy was so much more than her 10+ years battling against an auto-immune disease. A disease she fought with dignity, courage and always a sense of humor. She was a daughter, sister, cousin and most important, mother. In 1992, she adopted the love of her life….Samuel William Dean. Betsy was a proud and devoted mother. She loved working in her yard, doing crafts, and spending time with the many kids she helped raise…..and it was many! Her door was always open and her fridge always full; Betsy had a heart larger than herself. She had a knack of always caring for others, putting their needs ahead of herself, never for monetary gains or long term devotion, but because of her huge heart. Many people and families are better because of Betsy Dean. She will never be forgotten and will be missed forever and a day.

Betsy is predeceased by parents, William Dean and Helen Dean. She is survived by her son Samuel Dean; sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and David Elder, cousin Paul McCormick, and extended families, the Lee's and the Dance's.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Idaho Falls South Stake Center, 2051 South Emerson. A reception will follow at the Shilo Inn, 780 Lindsay Blvd, in Idaho Falls.
