Eldon J. Rockwood, 87, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away July 22, 2012, at Caring Hearts Assisted Living Center in Pocatello. He was under the care of his family and Access Hospice.
Eldon was born April 22, 1925, in Iona, Idaho, to Bryant and Blanche Rockwood. He grew up and attended schools in Iona. Eldon proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
On April 12, 1946, he married Virgie Whitehead in Ririe, Idaho. They made their home in Iona, then moved to Coltman, Idaho before settling in Idaho Falls, where they lived for 50 years. Virgie passed away January 4, 2007.
Eldon was a farmer and also worked in shipping and receiving at Idaho Potato Growers and Simplot. He later worked as maintenance supervisor at Three Fountains Condominiums. After his retirement he devoted hi time to maintaining his beautiful yard and his ranch at Bone.
Eldon loved dancing and was a member of the Promenaders Square Dancing Group. He enjoyed ranching, gardening, horticulture, fishing, family, and visiting with all he met.

Son, Scott (Tressa) Rockwood of Pocatello, ID;
Daughter, Holly (Rick) Murray of Spokane, WA;
Sister, Murille Messenger of Nampa, ID,
Sister, Della (Dallas) Hales of Idaho Falls, ID;
Brother, Robert Rockwood of St. Peters, MO,
5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virgie, a sister, Marie Hansen, and three brothers, Charles, Max, and Dean Rockwood.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at the Wood Funeral Home Chapel of the Pines, 273 North Ridge, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be next to Virgie in the Iona Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
