Eldon Anderson

Eldon Ervin Anderson, 84, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at MorningStar Assisted Living in Idaho Falls.

Eldon was born on May 24, 1941, in Burley, Idaho, to Iloise (Daley) Anderson and Erwin Jones, who passed away in a motorcycle accident when Eldon was six months old. He was later adopted by his step-father, Afton “Shady” Anderson, whose tall frame and good humor earned him his nickname.

Eldon grew up in Burley, where he attended school from 1st-12th grade and graduated from Burley High School in 1959. He loved baseball, swimming, and the outdoors. He played varsity baseball as a freshman and later became a talented swimmer and lifeguard, spending summers at the Burley pool teaching swimming lessons.

After high school, Eldon attended Utah State University, where he swam on the university team and earned his bachelor’s degree. Following graduation, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he enjoyed the warm weather and being near Dodger Stadium.

In 1966, at 25 years old, Eldon was drafted into the U.S. Army. He completed training at Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Benning, Georgia, before becoming a helicopter pilot. He served in Vietnam as an officer, flying Apache helicopters. He proudly served his country from 1966 to 1972, earning the rank of Captain and the honor of an American veteran.

After returning home, Eldon worked in sales and real estate insurance, known for his integrity, professionalism, and ability to connect with people.

On May 5, 1993, Eldon married Sondra McDermott in Boise, Idaho, and purchased a beautiful home in Meridian, Idaho. Together they shared more than 30 years of companionship, travel, laughter, and family until her passing in February 2025.

Eldon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He deeply loved his grandchildren, who brought him great joy and pride.

Eldon will be remembered for his gentle strength, quick wit, and contagious laughter. He had a deep love for family and friends and spending quality time with them. Those who knew him best will remember his easy smile and genuine warmth.

Eldon is survived by his son, Casey Anderson (Stephanie); stepchildren, Randi McDermott (Ed Walker) and Ryan McDermott (Trina); and several beloved grandchildren: Saige, Regan, Davis, Ruby, Dylan, and Katie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sondra Lee Anderson; his parents, Iloise and Afton “Shady” Anderson; and his biological father, Erwin Jones.

A ceremony honoring Eldon’s life and military service with full honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. Arrangements are under the care of Wood Funeral Home in Ammon.
