Elaine Meeks

On Friday, July 10, 2026, at 9:37 p.m. MST, our beautiful wife and mother, Elaine Gill Meeks (née Burton), peacefully passed away at the age of 79, surrounded by the love of her devoted husband, James, and her beloved children.

After courageously fighting the good fight with unwavering faith and grace, Elaine returned to her Heavenly Father, whom she had loved and served throughout her life. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the knowledge that, through Jesus Christ, this is not the end, but the beginning of a joyful reunion.

Elaine was born on February 23, 1947, in Kingston upon Hull, East Yorkshire, England, to Leslie Charles Burton and Edna Burton (née Weekes). She often described her childhood as privileged—not because of wealth, but because she was raised in a home filled with love, compassion, generosity, and the value of hard work. Those principles became the foundation of the remarkable life she lived.

After leaving school, Elaine began working for Reckitt & Colman. Her determination and willingness to learn quickly earned her promotion to Personal Assistant to the manager with her own office and secretary while still only seventeen years old—a remarkable achievement that reflected the ambition and work ethic that would define her life.

She married Gerald Brian Render, her childhood sweetheart, in January 1966 and lived in Kingston Upon Hull, England, where they had 5 beautiful children. They later divorced in 1977.

As a young woman, aged 16, she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remained a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ throughout her life. Her faith shaped every decision she made. She worshiped faithfully, helped build her local chapel in Hull, served in many callings, and later served as a temple missionary. The gospel was never simply something she believed—it was something she lived every day.

Elaine's greatest joy was always her family. She often said that her finest accomplishment was not the businesses she built but her five beloved children: Jayne, Nadine, Melanie, Nathan, and Linsey. They remained the center of her life, and nothing brought her greater happiness than seeing her family grow through grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gifted with remarkable vision and determination, Elaine became a successful entrepreneur. She transformed opportunities into thriving businesses, beginning with a children's nursery, later developing residential care homes, and eventually building one of Yorkshire's largest domiciliary home healthcare companies, employing more than 300 people. Yet she never measured success by financial achievement, but by the opportunities she created and the lives she was able to bless.

Following her marriage to Michael Ronald Gill in September 1978, they shared a passion for life and adventure. A spontaneous decision to purchase a farm on the Isle of Anglesey changed the course of their family's life, creating countless treasured memories surrounded by family, animals, laughter, and the beauty of North Wales. Later, Bryn Aethwy in Menai Bridge became the family home where generations gathered and where everyone was welcomed with open arms.

Elaine loved life. She enjoyed music, dancing, travel, beautiful homes, driving at speed, and new adventures. Whether exploring the world with her family or simply walking the beaches and mountains of Wales, she found joy in every season of life and taught those around her to do the same.

Following Michael's passing in 2012, Elaine experienced profound loss. In 2020, she met James Meeks, and their friendship blossomed into a beautiful love story. They were married on April 4, 2020, in St. George, Utah, and shared wonderful years together living between Wales, Florida, Utah, and eventually Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Later in life, Elaine was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. While the illness gradually stole many of her memories, it never diminished her kindness, her gentle spirit, or the love that surrounded her. Throughout every stage of her illness, Jim cared for her with extraordinary tenderness, patience, dignity, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage became a beautiful example of enduring love and faithful commitment.

Perhaps more than anything else, Elaine will be remembered for her generosity. She quietly supported missionary service, humanitarian causes, and those in need without ever seeking recognition. She taught her children to serve others by example. Every Christmas she organized anonymous acts of kindness, delivering gifts to struggling families and lonely elderly neighbors under the cover of darkness, wanting her children to learn that the greatest acts of service are often those known only to God.

Friends and family consistently describe Elaine with the same words: faithful, courageous, joyful, elegant, generous, compassionate, and deeply devoted to God and her family. She possessed a gift for making others feel loved, valued, and capable of becoming more than they believed possible.

One of her favorite scriptures was Romans 8:28:

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God."

She lived those words with unwavering optimism. She refused to dwell on life's disappointments, choosing instead to see opportunity, hope, and purpose in every circumstance. One of her favorite reminders was, "Those who are for us are far greater than those who are against us."

Elaine is survived by her devoted husband, James Meeks; her five cherished children, Jayne Bentley, Nadine Walker (Richard), Melanie Quilter (Brian), Nathan Lee Gill (Jana), and Linsey Anne Smith (Kelly); 23 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her immeasurable love and example.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Burton (nee) Weeks; her brother, John David Burton; her father, Leslie Charles Burton; and her husband, Michael Ronald Gill.

A life is not measured by wealth, titles, or accomplishments. It is measured by the lives it changes.

Elaine built successful businesses. She built beautiful homes. But her greatest masterpiece was her family. She taught us to put Christ first, family always, to work hard, laugh often, give generously, dream boldly, and trust God completely.

Her influence extends far beyond those who knew her personally. Through the countless lives she touched with kindness, encouragement, charity, and faith, her legacy will continue for generations to come.

She lived fully.

She loved completely.

She served selflessly.

She trusted God without reservation.

Until we meet again, thank you, Mummy, for teaching us how to love more deeply, serve more faithfully, and live more joyfully.

Because of Jesus Christ, we know this is not goodbye.

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
