Egon George Lamprecht, 79, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 22, 2014, at his home.
Describe this gentle guy. His favorite fragrances were gas, oil, grease. Anything that involved a motor— not necessarily in working condition— delighted him. A rusting frame gave him a reason to dismantle, analyze, repair, and then stand back and admire. Enter a shop filled with parts and he glowed. As a young boy he spent his spare time in the neighborhood hardware store memorizing every nut, bolt, screw, and washer.
He was a busy guy, always finding projects needing his expertise. He joyfully helped friends. Nothing was more important than helping others, especially if it involved gas, oil or grease.
Photography was an integral step in all his vehicle building. He loved to "picture" his progress of recreating a vehicle from a junk heap to a beautiful, award-winning car. He dedicated a book to each car built. Several years ago he completed his last car, Midnight Delight.
He then took up woodworking, finding the joy he had previously experienced with cars. Egon enjoyed shopping now in a different medium. Here again a busy guy creating.
Travel provided many wonderful experiences. Although he was hesitant to explore outside the U.S., he was game to follow Connie anywhere. It was traveling with friends that once-in-a-while got him outside the U.S. borders. Traveling with family and friends formed strong bonds. And friends wanted to tag-along with Egon and Connie because they were such fun. New England was his favorite destination. Some of his best photographs were New England landscapes. He spent time selecting the best view. Simple pleasures were his style.
Taking care of family was always high priority in his schedule. Egon was there to shop, replace and repair. Until Connie, his wife, said "No more ladders," he did it all for his parents, siblings, in-laws, cousins and children. He had to be of service to people. Friends benefitted always from Egon's gift of gab and repair. Many will look around their homes and find places and objects Egon made whole.
Egon's ever ready sense of humor sparked his public speaking. From teaching and encouraging students to his invitation to speak at a nuclear safety conference held near Fort Worth, Texas, at Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant. His audiences always came away smiling and better informed.
Close, everlasting relationships were formed from Egon's desire to help. Egon's smile lives in the memories of all who knew him.
