EDWIN H. ROEMER
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Edwin H. Roemer, 73, of Idaho Falls, died March 2, 2003, at his home.
Ed was born July 5, 1929 to Paul and Florence Crosby Roemer in Dayton, Ohio. He grew up on the family farm near Dayton and attended local schools. Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, qualifying for the naval nuclear program under Admiral Hyrum Rickover.
During training in the nuclear Navy program Ed was sent to Idaho, the location of the Nautilus prototype. He loved the West, and married Marjorie Tegnell, an Idaho native, on Feb. 6, 1954 in Elko, Nevada. He was then stationed in New London, Connecticut, where he was an Electronics Technician 1st Class with the original crew of the USS Nautilus, the first atomic-powered submarine.
Following his service in the US Navy, Ed and his family moved back to Idaho. He worked at Argonne National Laboratory for 37 years as an electronics Engineering Technician and was instrumental in the operation of the historic EBR-II Experimental Breeder Reactor. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Viola Roemer.
Memorial Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2003, at the Wood Chapel of the Pines, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. The family will meet with friends on Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge.
