ED TREAT
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Edward Paige Treat, 68, of Idaho Falls, died due to complications of pneumonia, April 15, 2006, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
Ed was born November 6, 1937, in Alva, Oklahoma, to Reverend Edward Straight Treat and Jenny Elizabeth Paige Treat. His family moved from Oklahoma to Burlington, Vermont, where Ed attended school during his grade school years. While in Burlington, he learned to snow ski at Stowe, Vermont, and was taught this sport by members of the US Olympic team. His family then moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where he graduated from Fargo High School and then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Dakota State University.
Ed played high school tennis and taught tennis for the city of Fargo during summer vacations. After his college graduation in 1960, he worked at the INL Site for various contractors for the next 33 years. While working at the INL, he met his future wife, Linda Haggard, and they were married June 17, 1967, in the Rose area near Blackfoot, Idaho. They lived in Idaho Falls 39 years, where they raised their two children. During these years he was an avid skier, fisherman, hunter and tennis player. After his retirement, Ed was a tennis coach and instructor at Apple Athletic Club. Over the years, he used his talents to teach the sport of tennis to many young people, of whom he was very proud.
Ed’s second avid passion was fly fishing and tying many different fly patterns. He loved collecting fur, feathers and yarn to tie new and different flies to try on the river. He spent many hours on the rivers, streams, and lakes of Idaho as his great enjoyment.
Ed had a special love for his family and is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Scott (Laurie) of Idaho Falls; daughter, Cydney (Eric) Mortensen, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and son, Ed South (Buffy) of Ammon. He was especially close to his grandchildren, Camden, Lauren and Olivia Treat and Ryan, Emily and Abigail Mortensen. Also surviving him are three brothers, Dr. Robert Treat of Sacramento, CA; James Treat of Walnut Grove, CA; and Dr. Daniel Treat of Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, with Ron Mortensen officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Wood Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Apple Tennis Club, 2030 Jennie Lee Drive, Idaho Falls, ID 83404, to be used for the local Community Tennis Association scholarship fund.

Ed was a wonderful tennis coach to my son, Alex, and a wonderful friend and coach to me as I learned to play the great game of tennis. Ed was always smiling and had a kind word, even if your tennis game was horrible. Ed promised to take me fly fishing as soon as the weather cleared up. I sure wish we could have taken that trip! My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May wonderful memories of Ed sustain you through this difficult time.

Dear Linda & Family:
Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Ed was a neat guy. He helped many a green horn engineer start their careers in the nuclear industry by patiently giving them guidance and counselling. We will always remember him as a man of good nature, a quick smile, and a keen sense of humor. We will miss him.

Mrs. Treat and Family,
I knew Edward as (Ed, Eddy, or Edwardo) -- he was my tennis coach and he was the coolest. I'm really sorry for your loss. One day at tennis practice I bet him $1.50 that I could do a trick with my racquet and I lost . . . but every lesson I forgot to pay him. The day my mom told me, I thought - no, that can't be possible - but it was true. I'm still tring to get over it but it's hard, I'm sooo sorry! Your new friend,
Carli
P.S. If there is a way to send that money to you, please give me your address or e-mail address, that would be great.

Ted Evans (tede@infowest.com)
Dear Linda - This is Ted and Sandy Evans. We received a copy of Eds obituary in Fridays mail. It was sent to us here in St. George UT (We have lived here since 2000) by Dick Wheeler who was of friend of Eds and mine with whom we played softball on the Phillips 66 teams in the early 1960s.
Please accept our condolences. He as a great guy.
I awoke at 5 a.m. this morning just reminising about all the great times we had together whether it was on the ball field, fishing, hunting, skiing or what. Even when we both showed up at the INEL as young single engineers in January of 1960 and spent our time chasing the secretaries. I think we both lucked out and caught a couple of the best ones.
Ed was so easy going and fun to be around. I can remember on more than one occasion when he had to calm me down during a ball game because I was such a hot head at times. The only time I can remember him getting upset was when he bought his new red and white Chevy Impala SS in 1962 and I bumped into it with my car.
Again Linda, may Sandy and I express our love to you and your family.
