It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Grandpa, Edward Alexander Ledvina, on June 25, 2026. He was home, surrounded by his family, and under the care of Symbii Hospice. What a glorious reunion there must have been when Grandma was there to greet him.

Edward was born March 23, 1941, to Edward Alexander Ledvina Sr. and Lillian Lorinda Surerus, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Grandpa was raised in Roberts, Idaho, where he would remain for almost all his life. He attended school in Roberts and graduated from Roberts High School in 1959.

Edward met his future wife and soul mate, Marlene, on a blind date. They were married June 17, 1960, at Marlene's parent's home in Grant, Idaho. Grandma and Grandpa were inseparable and were together for almost 65 years until Marlene's passing in April 2025. To their union, they welcomed three children, Bill in 1961, Paul in 1964, and Lorrie in 1967. Grandma and Grandpa spent most all their lives on their farm just west of Roberts. Grandpa worked for a time repairing motors, but the majority of his career was spent farming and driving truck.

Ed was a devout Christian, and knew the Bible from cover-to-cover. He studied ministry by correspondence for a while. His family remembers fondly staying up late studying and reading the Bible with him. His grandson remembers during a late night Bible study, a group of coyotes came onto the farm and made their presence known by barking and howling. He and Grandpa went out to check on the sheep, but after seeing the coyotes glowing eyes, his grandson ran back into the house and left Grandpa to fend for himself.

Grandpa always kept a stash of candy by his chair, and his family remembers the treat it was when he would share it. In the later years on the farm, they only had sheep they raised. After helping Grandpa herd the sheep, he would race the grandkids back to the house for grandma's cookies. He'd dwarf them in size, so he won the race most the time.

Ed enjoyed leatherwork, and many of his family have wallets and purses made by him. He was a perfectionist, and when things didn't go right, many people paid witness to him throwing his project across the room. Off and on throughout his life, he enjoyed putting models together, and his sons remember working on them with him in the evenings. Ed was also a reader and collector of Christian novels, many of which he read aloud to Marlene. Every year he grew a beautiful garden. He had a love for the outdoors and spent as much time there as possible.

Ed was a very wise man. He knew a little about a lot of things. If ever a problem, you could ask Grandpa and he probably had seen it before and would have the solution. We will miss the guidance and counsel he provided. Though a quiet and reserved man, Grandpa had a charm about him that drew people in. If you got to know him, he was also incredibly witty and had a great sense of humor. Everybody called him "Grandpa"--friends, family, and acquaintances.

In 2009, Ed and Marlene moved from their farm to Idaho Falls to be closer to family and doctors. As Marlene's health declined, Ed took exceptional care of her. In their later years, they truly were inseparable and hardly spent a moment apart.

Edward is survived by his children, Bill (Raela) Ledvina of Roberts, Idaho; Paul (Bobbie) Ledvina of Athens, Tennesse; and Lorrie (Todd) Mendel of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way); and 1 great-great grandchild.

Edward is proceeded in death by his loving wife, Marlene; sister, Lillian Witkavage; and parents, Edward and Lillian Ledvina.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses that cared for Ed through the years, and a special thanks to Heather Barndt with Symbii Provider Services and Whitney with Symbii Physical Therapy for their care to him. A special thanks and recognition also to his grandson, Chris Mendel, for his years of care and devotion to both Grandma and Grandpa.

Grandpa, please give Grandma a hug and a kiss from all of us. We love you both.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends Monday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services, with both visitations at Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
