EDNA DURSTELER IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Edna Dursteler, 96, of Idaho Falls, passed away July 26, 2009, at Idaho Falls Care & Rehabilitation Center of causes incident to age. Edna was born September 6, 1912, in Teton City, Idaho, to George Albert Huskinson and Maida Inez Johnson Huskinson in her Great Grandmother Cloward's home. The family lived in a log house on the Rexburg Bench for a few years, then her father built a new home on an irrigated farm on Moody Creek. She attended elementary school in Moody Creek and graduated from Sugar-Salem High School. She then spent two years at the University of Idaho Southern Branch in Pocatello. She taught school for one year at Sunnydell, a small two-room school south of Rexburg. She later earned bachelor’s and master's degrees from Idaho State University. She married Willard Heber Dursteler June 7, 1933, in Pocatello, Idaho, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Their daughter, Marlene Dee, was born February 11, 1935. Edna was a homemaker and mother. During World War II Edna accepted a teaching position and taught for 34 years. They lived in Ogden and Riverdale, Utah, then Mapleton, Pocatello, Inkom, and St. Anthony, Idaho, before moving to Idaho Falls in 1947. Willard passed away March 22, 1959. Edna taught English at O. E. Bell Junior High School until her retirement. Following Willard's death she lived with her daughter, Marlene, who had contracted polio as an infant, until Marlene’s death on August 18, 1985. Edna moved into Fairwinds Sandcreek Retirement Center seven years ago. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in all the auxiliaries. She was a member of several educational and community organizations, including Delta Kappa Gamma, International Education Honorary for Teachers, and National, State, and Local Education Associations. She was also active in the Retired Teachers Association and Beta Sigma Phi. Edna was good at handiwork and was able to master anything she tried. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and traveling. Survivors include: Sister: Ruth (Lee) Birch, Idaho Falls, ID, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willard, her daughter, Marlene, three sisters, Opal Ricks, Preal Parkhurst, and Pearl Misseldine, and a brother, Dale Huskinson. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2009, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Friday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the services at Wood East Side.
