EDITH S. EGGLESON
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Edith Sorenson Eggleson passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2003, just one month shy of her 103rd birthday. She was an extraordinary woman and an inspiration to her family and many friends.
Edith was born on April 23, 1900, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, to Hans Christian and Anna Matilda Sorenson. Hard-working and independent throughout her life, she left home at age 15 to attend business college in North Dakota. She completed preparatory school in Everett, Washington, and then enrolled at the University of Oregon, where she put herself through college. She was a member of the University of Oregon chapter of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. While in college, she met her husband, Asa William Eggleson. Edith and Ace married on September 28, 1928 in La Grande, Oregon and were ranchers in the Wallowa Valley of eastern Oregon. She enjoyed fishing on Prairie Creek and Wallowa Lake.
After Asa’s death, Edith owned and operated a women’s ready-to-wear store, “The Hollywood Shoppe,” in Lewiston, Idaho. She traveled to Los Angeles and other metropolitan areas for the new apparel season markets, and she became the friend of many people in the apparel industry who admired her successful store and her business talents. Always dressed in the latest and finest clothing, Edith carried her fine sense of style with her throughout her life.
In 1971, Edith retired and moved to Idaho Falls to be closer to her daughter, Anne, her son-in-law, Eugene Bush, and her seven grandchildren. In retirement, Edith could often be found seated behind home plate at Highland Park (McDermott Field) watching the Idaho Falls Angels. She later became a dedicated television fan of the Atlanta Braves. She created needlework of exceptional beauty and detail. She enjoyed playing bridge, bible study, and following the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew her lovingly as “Grams.” She never met an Almond Roca she didn’t like. She was a member of Chapter AA, P.E.O. and a 71-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Idaho Falls.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, her son-in-law, two brothers, Lloyd and Clarence, and a sister, Lillian. She is survived by her daughter, Anne, of Idaho Falls, and seven grandchildren: Katherine Ingram of Idaho Falls, Ronald Bush of Pocatello, Elizabeth Williams of Kennewick, Washington, Joan Harrie of Boise, Idaho, Carolyn Vasoli of Ambler, Pennsylvania, John Bush of Boise, and Emily Geary, also of Boise. She had 13 great grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, at the First Presbyterian Church of Idaho Falls, 325 Elm Street. The Reverend Dr. Dennis Falasco will officiate.
The family will meet with friends one hour before the services at the church.
Arrangements are under the care of Wood Funeral Home.
