Maxine Barber passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 1, 2025, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community at the age of 96.
Maxine was born on November 20, 1928, in Plano, Idaho, the 6th of 7 children, to Russell and Hazel Hillman. She grew up in Plano and Rexburg and spent summers helping out on the family ranch in Kilgore, Idaho. Maxine was an accomplished life-long bowler and was bowling on two different leagues well into her late 80’s. She also enjoyed playing gin and pinochle with Karl, even though he was known to be a card shark. Maxine was also grateful for her two grandsons, and cherished the time she spent with them growing up.
Family and home were very important to Maxine, and she took great pride in keeping a beautiful and welcoming home. She also was an exceptional cook, a skill she learned while helping her mother cook for the ranch hands on the cattle ranch at Kilgore.
Maxine was proceeded in death by her parents, all 6 of her siblings, and her husband Karl who passed away in 2016. She is survived by her daughter Jill, her son Jeff, both of Idaho Falls, and her grandsons Chad and Cameron, both of Boise.
