Eddie Guevarra Mateo, 71, of Idaho Falls, passed away on February 10, 2023, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. He was under the care of Aspen Home Health & Hospice.
Eddie was born June 1, 1951, in Cavite Province, Philippines, to Eustacio Mateo Sr. and Eva Guevarra Mateo. He grew up in the province of Cavite, Philippines, and served in the Philippine Navy from 1970 to 1979.
On June 21, 1977, he married Lagrimas Chavez and settled in Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. They had three children. Eddie and Lagrimas owned and operated a meat shop business. They both moved to the United States in 2014.
Eddie enjoyed long bicycle rides in the countryside. He loved cooking and was the self-designated cook for the family. His specialty and most requested dish was arroz valenciana, a rice dish similar to paella. Eddie was a hardworking butcher; a devoted husband and father; and a doting grandfather. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
Eddie lived a long, happy life, and died peacefully in the ICU at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after a hard-fought battle against the medical deficits from a stroke in 2014 and heart failure in 2017.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Lagrimas Mateo of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Laddie (Carwin) Hendricks of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Reden (Katrina) Mateo of Singapore; daughter, Apple (Archim Tan) Mateo-Tan of Philippines; sisters, Erlinda Serrano, Elizabeth Mateo, Ruby Torres, Christie (Einon) Reyes, all from the Philippines; brother, Eustacio (Erlina Mateo) Mateo, Jr. of the Philippines; and four grandchildren, Jake and Maya Hendricks (Laddie and Carwin), and Ziv and Ailani Mateo (Reden and Katrina).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eustacio Mateo, Sr. and Eva Mateo; brother, Virgilio Mateo; and sister, Cynthia Parnala.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2023, at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1690 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. A rosary will be held on Sunday evening at 6 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, with a visitation to follow from 7-8 p.m.
