Edward Joseph "Eddie" Abreu, 96, of Idaho Falls, passed away September 15, 2016, at Lily & Syringa Assisted Living Center. He was under the care of Encompass Hospice.
Eddie was born June 7, 1920, in Oakland, California, to Antonio Francis Abreu and Mamie Gonsalves Abreu. He grew up and attended schools in Oakland and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II.
On October 16, 1946, he married Mary Kathleen Hayes Karr in Oakland, California. To this union were born three children, Nick, Christine, and Michele. Eddie and Mary made their home in Alameda, California, where Eddie worked as a building maintenance supervisor for Pacific Bell.
He was a member of the St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, and the Alameda Elks. He enjoyed woodworking and motorcycles.
Eddie is survived by his son, Nicholas (Cathy) Abreu of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Christine Abreu of Castro Valley, CA;daughter, Michele Abreu of Fremont, CA; brother, Anthony (Maria) Abreu of San Jose, CA; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, William Abreu.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
