Earl Raymond Danielson, 94, of Idaho Falls, devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2017, at his home. He was cared for by his family with the help of Encompass Home Health and Hospice.
Earl was born September 7, 1922, in Garfield, Idaho, to Daniel Enoch Danielson and Emma Elizabeth Jeffs Danielson. He lived in the Idaho Falls area his entire life. Earl was drafted in 1942 and trained as a medical technician. He served in the 7th Corps, 1st Army in the European theater of WWII. He landed on Utah Beach on D-Day+2 and was assigned to a field hospital that advanced as the Allies moved through Europe. He was honorably discharged and returned home in November 1945.
On July 3, 1946, Earl married Idanah Lorraine Robertson in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they had seven children, Lorraine, Raymond, Christine, Jeffrey, George, and twins Paul and James. Earl and Idanah made their home in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Earl remodeled two homes for his family, digging a basement by hand for their first home. Earl and Idanah have lived in their present home for 63 years.
Earl worked as a fireman for the city of Idaho Falls for 30 years, retiring as a Battalion Chief. He was also a journeyman electrician and worked as an electrical inspector for the City of Idaho Falls after retiring from the Fire Department. Earl often held two jobs and taught his children the importance of hard work and responsibility.
Earl was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed his service in the temple, at the old Genealogical Library, and as a Spanish name extractor. He passed off many merit badges for local Scouts. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He spent much time in his garden, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. He loved apricots and cultivated two large apricot trees in his east Idaho back yard. He was dedicated to his family and enjoyed his time with them. He devoted much of his time to the care of his handicapped son, Paul.
Earl is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Idanah Danielson; daughter, Lorraine (Russ) Stewart of Shelley; son, Raymond (Evelyn) Danielson of Puyallup, WA; daughter, Christine Danielson of Idaho Falls; son, Jeff (Maureen) Danielson of Osgood; son, George (Peggy) Danielson of Kaysville, UT; son, Paul Danielson of Idaho Falls; and 16 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, James Paul Danielson; a granddaughter, Analee West; brothers George, Carl, Melvin, Ralph LeRoy, and Edwin Dean Danielson; sisters Selma Fell, Hazel Gardner, Esther Croft, Elsie Holcomb, Adeline Dosh, and Pearl Mawson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the Idaho Falls LDS Grandview Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Jeff Clifford officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Burial will be in the Moreland Cemetery.
Military Rites will be performed by the Bingham County Veterans Memorial Team and the Idaho Honor Guard.
