Duane Allen Spellman, 90, of Rexburg, passed away February 11, 2026, at Temple View Transitional Care Center. He was under the care of Symbi Hospice.
Duane was born February 20, 1935, in Isabel, South Dakota, to Henry Spellman and Leona Mary Motis Spellman. He grew up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and graduated from San Jose State University with his Bachelors in Mathematics. He also served as an Army Specialist 5 in a program that studied radio waves and the ionosphere.
On January 8, 1955, he married Bonnie Mae Spellman in Bannock, Idaho. Duane and Bonnie made their home in California and Texas where Duane worked as a Computer Programmer for IBM.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also a member of the Cushman Club and enjoyed attending Cushman scooter meets. He enjoyed building cars from the ground up. He also enjoyed building campers and houses. He worked on two of the space shuttles and Skylab.
Duane is survived by his son, David Allen (Tina) Spellman of Farmers Branch, TX; daughter, Valerie Lynne (James) Spellman Heydorn of League City, TX; foster son, Phil Johnson; grandchild, Tiffany Daniel of Rexburg, ID; and 18 other grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Mae Spellman, and daughter, Rachelle Lynnette Crawford.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
