Dr. Maiben Duane “Doc” Jones, 96, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 3, 2024, at Lincoln Court Retirement Community.
Duane was born November 2, 1927, in Glenore, Idaho, to Maiben Stevens Jones and Ethel Leda Jones. He grew up and attended schools in Glenore, Idaho, graduating from Ammon High School. He also attended Washington State University and graduated with a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.
On November 5, 1947, he married Celia Thompson in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. Duane and Celia made their home in Idaho Falls where Duane worked as a veterinarian for most of his life.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many positions. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed rodeoing, snowmobiling, hunting, ranching, cutter racing, and horse racing. He helped establish the Bonneville Cutter Association and was inducted into the Idaho Horseman Hall of Fame.
Duane is survived by his daughter, Jackie (Bill) Jones of Rigby, ID; son, Craig (Karie) Jones of Rigby, ID; son, Blake (Teressa) Jones of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Wade (Denise) Jones of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Gary (Lisa) Jones of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, JaLene (Craig) Spackman of Lewisville, ID; sister, Jeanene Murdock of Ogden, UT; 28 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Celia Jones; sister, Alice Day; and brother, David Milton Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, with President Craig Jones officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Lincoln Court Retirement Community and One Source Hospice for the loving care they showed Duane in his later years.
