Douglas A Lufkin, 86, of Ammon, passed away January 21, 2016, at his home. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice.
Doug was born January 27, 1929, in Annis, Idaho, to Marion Aquila Lufkin and Magdelena Katrina Hoffman Lufkin. He grew up and attended schools in Jefferson County.
On August 9, 1952, he married Mary Pauline Garrett in Crown Point, Indiana. To this union were born six children, Janet, Roy, Michael, Katrina, Bobbye, and Shirley. Doug served in the United States Army during World War II, the Korean War, and also Vietnam, and retired as a Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in many places, including Alaska, Germany, Virginia, Washington, and Colorado. Following his retirement, he and Mary moved home to Idaho. He kept busy with various jobs. He worked as a truck driver, at Hertz Car Sales, U-Haul, as well as other places.
Doug was primarily a family man. He loved his family and spending time with them. Together, they enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. Doug was always puttering around doing something. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lufkin of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Janet E. (Hal) Roberts of Rigby, ID; son, Roy Lee (Rita) Lufkin of Lacombe, LA; daughter, Katrina (Lyle) Larsen of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Bobbye L. Lufkin of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Shirley A. (Cal) Smith of Ammon, ID; sister, Carolyn Davis of McCammon, ID; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Magdelena Lufkin; and a son, Michael D. Lufkin.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Doug’s 87th Birthday, Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Annis-Little Butte Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1-2:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 963 S. Ammon Road prior to services. Military Rites will be performed by the Jefferson County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
