Douglas Farrow, 95, passed away on May 8, 2015, at Teton Post Care and Rehabilitation Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Doug was born March 8,1920, in Summit, Iron, Utah, to John Farrow and Lucy Bradshaw. He was the second youngest of nine children. His early schooling was in Summit, Utah, and later attended school in Cedar City, Utah, and graduated from Cedar City High School.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission with headquarters in Denver, Colorado in 1941-'42. Before the completion of his mission, World War II was declared. He was permitted to finish the two years before he was drafted.
After basic training at Camp Bowie in Texas, he volunteered for overseas duty. He served his country for two years overseas participating in five campaigns in Europe including Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe. He crossed the English Channel on an LST and landed on Omaha Beach, June 1944.
After the war, Douglas enrolled at Utah State Agricultural College on the G. I. Bill where he met his future wife, Afton Bunderson, from St. Charles, Bear Lake, Idaho. They were married June 30,1948 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.
Douglas completed a Bachelor's Degree at Utah State in 1949 and later received a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. He taught school at New Sweden, Central Junior High, Clair E. Gale and Eagle Rock Junior High for a total of 36 years.
He has always been active in his church, a Temple worker for 25 years and a volunteer at Columbia Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for five years. After retirement, he and his wife served a mission in Ocean Shores, Washington, Tacoma Mission.
He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family in Island Park, at the cabin, and surrounding areas. He loved being with his family on vacations. He was also a prolific reader and read many books on history, church doctrine and politics.
He is survived by his wife, Afton of 66 years and their three children Evan (Nancy), Ken (Susan) and Lora (Doug) Stewart. They have 11 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren and two more announced. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers John (Jack), Lyle and Raymond and his sisters Florence, Lillian, Lucy, Alice and Marie. The family expresses thanks to the doctors, nurses, aides and therapists at EIRMC and the Teton Post Acute Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Randall Wheeler officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday prior to services. Burial will be in the St. Charles Cemetery Thursday, May 14, 2015, at noon.
Military Rites will be performed by the Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
