Wayne Douglas “Doug” Pierce, 66, of Shelley, passed away suddenly at his home February 1, 2012. Doug was born March 9, 1965 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Lynn “Bing” and Ruth Pierce. Doug grew up in the Mud Lake area attending school in Idaho Falls. Doug has called Shelley home for the past 24 years. Doug was a strong man that shone when others faded. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran who served his country in not only the Air Force, but the Navy as well. Doug married the love of his life, Susan A. Kimball, on April 8, 1986, and unfortunately lost her on October 21, 2008. Doug was a leader and role model to many, especially his children. The greatest honor he could have was the gift of fatherhood. Doug gave everything he could to be a great father and later in life he raised the bar when he became a grandfather. Doug enjoyed the outdoors and sharing it with his family and friends. Doug always had a knack for putting humor into any situation making sure that there was always room for a smile, his will truly be missed. He is survived by his children: Matthew (Indy) Fowler of Ucon, ID; Heather Schwartz of Newport News, VA; Britta (William) McAllister of Shelley, ID; Michael (Stacy) Fowler of Williamsburg, VA; His brother Michael (Paula) Pierce of Montpelier, ID and his 6 grandchildren; Michaela Fowler, Taylor Fowler, Jacob Schwartz, Gage Fowler, Hannah Fowler, and Indy McAllister Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Ruth Pierce; his wife, Susan Pierce; and his son, Michael Pierce. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the Jameston LDS Ward (1101 East 1250 North) in Shelley. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Following services, military rites will be performed at the church by veterans of the David B. Bleak Post 93 from Shelley assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
