It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Emery Meikle, age 75, on April 24, 2026. Doug passed away peacefully at his home in Idaho Falls, due to ongoing health issues.
Doug was born May 28, 1950, in Rigby, Idaho, the second child of Steven Emery Meikle and Lula Griffin Meikle. His older sister, Brenda, was so happy to welcome a little brother. His mother said he was the best-natured baby she had. Later, three more sisters were added to the family. Ida was born in 1954, Colleen in 1955, and Shirley in 1960.
Doug had a good childhood growing up on the farm in Osgood. He attended Osgood Elementary School and Clair E. Gale Jr. High and Idaho Falls High School. He spent a lot of time with the group of neighborhood boys his age and also with all of his cousins. They would swim in the canal, ride motor bikes, and sleep outside in the summer. His Dad said Doug grew up to be his right-hand man and helper on the farm. They grew potatoes, sugar beets, grain, and alfalfa. He was a very gifted welder and mechanic. He and his Dad repaired all of the tractors, trucks, and equipment on the farm. He helped his Dad design and build a side truck hay loader that worked very well to speed up the haying process.
Doug loved nice cars. When he was young, his pride and joy was his 1966 Chevy Chevelle. He kept it spotless and loved driving it around. He loved to garden. He designed and built green houses. He was once recognized in the newspaper for having the best garden and the tallest sunflowers.
On January 16, 1968, Doug married Mary Eve McDonald. They had one child, Patrick Douglas Meikle. They were later divorced. On March 18, 1971, Doug married Kathryn Beverly Bingham. They had two daughters, Kristy Jo and Jodie. They were later divorced.
After his Dad retired, Doug continued to farm for several years. He was a good farmer and kept up on the latest technology and farming procedures. Doug used his mechanic skills the rest of his life. He could repair anything. He loved learning about new things and spent many hours researching various topics on the internet. He loved sharing the new information he had learned. He was a very good cook, he enjoyed being outdoors, camping, snowmobiling, going for rides, and he loved to dance.
Doug was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his older sister, Brenda Meikle Thorpe.
Doug is survived by his daughters, Kristy Jo (Michael) Waterman, Jodie Meikle; two granddaughters, Katie and Chole Meikle; brother-in-law, Tom Thorpe; three sisters, Ida (Kim) Ryan, Colleen (David) Albiston, Shirley (David) Reese; and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his family.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Annis-Little Butte Cemetery.
