Robert Douglas Hamelin, 50, of Ammon, passed away June 1, 2016, at his residence after a two year battle with leukemia. He was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice during his last week of life and under the incredible care of Dr. Jeff Hancock and the Teton Cancer Institute since his relapse last fall. Doug was born July 28, 1965, at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina, to Alfred Robert Hamelin and Edith Ann Garrett Hamelin. He attended Ricks College, Brigham Young University, and Idaho State University, studying English and technical writing. On May 26, 1989, he married Teri Lyn Edwards after they met in a dance class at Ricks College. They were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and together raised four sons, Garrett, Nikolas, Patric, and Colin. They made their home in Ammon, Idaho, where Doug worked as a Technical Writing Specialist for the Idaho National Laboratory. Doug very much enjoyed his job and the people he was able to work with on a daily basis. Doug was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also an avid scouter, spending many summers at Cedar Badge and volunteering on many scouting committees. He was an Eagle Scout and vigil in the Order of the Arrow. One of his most proud accomplishments was when he was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. In addition to volunteer work, Doug was also musically talented. He helped his wife, Teri, coach the Hillcrest Ballroom Dance Team; he enjoyed playing the organ, piano, flute, drums, and singing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, four boys, and new granddaughter. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Teri Hamelin of Ammon, ID; his four sons, Douglas "Garrett" (Tenisha) Hamelin of Spanish Fork, UT; Nikolas Edwards (Mary) Hamelin of Ammon, ID; Patric Kale Hamelin of Ammon, ID; son, Colin Reid Hamelin of Ammon, ID; his parents, Alfred and Edith Hamelin of Utah; brothers, Kenneth James (Tisha) Hamelin, Michael Duane (Rebecca) Hamelin, brother, Jason (Kirsten) Hamelin, Eldon "Buddy" (Tiffany) Hamelin, and Jonathon (Jennifer) Hamelin, all of Utah, a sister, Joanie (Kevin) Riehle of UT, a granddaughter, Henley Hamelin of UT, and a future grandson. He was preceded in death by his sister, Crystal Hansen. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the Ammon LDS 15th Ward, 1925 East 49th South, with Bishop Markell Bateman officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, both times at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
