Dorsal Jay “Doc” Catmull, 93, longtime resident of Idaho Falls, passed away March 11, 2013, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Dorsal was born September 19, 1919, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Albert Henry Catmull and Grace Beatrice Heath Catmull. He was always proud that he was born 9-19-1919!
Dorsal graduated from high school in Burley and was drafted into the U. S. Army. He served as a Master Sergeant in the records division and was attached to Patton’s 3rd Army in Europe. Doc had very vivid memories of his years in the service and loved to share them.
At a ward dance, Dorsal met Jacqueline Kimball. “She was an answer to my prayers” he would say. They were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on January 9, 1947. Dorsal and Jackie had four children, Marsha, Dale, Cindy, and Jay. Dorsal was in the appliance and furniture business for more than 50 years. Though retired, he worked at “the store” – Catmull’s Furniture – several times a month.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Doc has served in many callings, including as Bishop. He and Jackie served a full-time mission to Washington D.C., and helped immigrants from Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand. Doc always enjoyed fishing and going to the family cabin he built in Island Park. His family was his passion.
Doc is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jackie, of Idaho Falls;
Daughter, Marsha (George) Redd of Salt Lake City, UT;
Son, Dale (Barbara) Catmull of Idaho Falls;
Daughter, Cindy (Briant) DiChellis of Bountiful, UT;

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Rose, Merlin, Rex, Berniece, and Nadine.
