Dorothy Ann (Somerville) Bowen

Dorothy Ann Somerville Bowen, age 89, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away on August 6, 2025. She was a resident at MorningStar Senior Living for the past six years, and recently had been cared for by Enhabit Home Health and Hospice.

Dorothy was born on September 19, 1935, in Salem, Illinois, the second of four children, born to Walter and Mary Ellen Somerville. She had a successful career as a legal secretary for many years, and later retired as a secretary from Selkirk Metalbestos.

She married Ralph Leroy Bowen on June 5, 1954. They had two children, Deanna Jean and Alan Leroy. Ralph was a pastor, and they lived in many states, but eventually settled in Nampa, Idaho. Dorothy loved to garden and can her produce, do puzzles, play the organ, bake, sew and read. She was very social and they had many friends. They were members of the Calvary First Baptist Church in Boise, Idaho.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Deanna (Douglas) Markham of Brevard, North Carolina and Alan (Tammy) Bowen of Idaho Falls, Idaho; six grandchildren, Mark Scheidt (Amanda DaMato), Luke (Melissa) Scheidt, Shallin (Paul) Allen, Britton (Aubrey) Bowen, Austin (Elli) Bowen, and Madison (Jordan) Ball; 14 great grandchildren; and her sister, Jeannie (Harry) Matthews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary Ellen Somerville; husband, Ralph; brother, Jimmie; and sister, Agnes (Clarence) Matthews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
