Dorothy Jean Smith - 08/26/2002 Dorothy Jean Smith - 08/26/2002 DOROTHY JEAN SMITH IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO: Dorothy Jean Smith passed peacefully away August 24th, 2002, at her home in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the age of 72. She was born into a family of seven children in Ventura, California. At an early age she enjoyed being with her family and around bon fires singing and telling stories. Early in life she lost her parents and lived in various foster homes. This is where she learned her independence which she strived to have until her death. Dorothy enjoyed growing up and living in Ventura and Bakersfield, California. In May, 1969, Dorothy married her second husband, James “Jim” Evert Smith. Jim and Dorothy moved from California to Idaho Falls and then to Ririe in 1971. After Jim's retirement from Sears, Jim and Dorothy worked together for the U.S. Forest Service in Ashton through a senior program. This employment sparked a move to St. Anthony in 1990. They enjoyed the beauty and nature of the outdoors. Some of their best moments were spent on the Salmon River near Stanley with family and friends. They also enjoyed wintering in and around Yuma, Arizona. She lost her loving husband November 11th, 2000. She loved to joke around and had quite a sense of humor. Her hobbies included fishing, especially at “no-tell-them” creek; vegetable and flower gardening; and canning. During her lifetime she painted several beautiful paintings. She enjoyed a doll and movie collection. Her favorite movies were the old romances and comedy. She is survived by her daughter Sandra (Byron) Keely, Boise, Idaho; and her son, Greg (Monika) Shook, Idaho Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Don Burlington, Caves Junction, Oregon; John Burlington, Mayer, Arizona; sisters, Hazel Cooper, Caves Junction, Oregon; Irene Hayslip, Connecticut; and Barbara Burlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Smith and a brother, Bob Burlington. Family members would like to thank all of the wonderful people who became friends and helped their Mother during her lifetime. Dorothy had a big heart. She will dearly be missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace with the Lord. Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Burial will be next to her husband, James Evert Smith, at the Riverview Cemetery in St. Anthony, Idaho. If you would like to offer your condolences fill in the form below.
