DOROTHY F. MATTHEWS IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Dorothy Marie Fields Matthews died due to conditions related to age on June 5, 2006, at Mallory House in Idaho Falls. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. She was born January 1, 1916, to Annie Mai Shearin Fields and Hardie Fields near Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated from Central High School in Nashville and later married Charles Edward Matthews II on April 10, 1937, in Nashville. They lived in Madison, Tennessee, until his death in 1975. Dorothy continued to live in Madison until 2000. She worked as a secretary, then insurance underwriter for Fireman's Fund Insurance from 1956 to 1970. She suffered debilitating injuries when a construction accident at a building adjacent to her office collapsed her office roof in 1959. Despite the injuries that pained her for the remainder of her life, she continued to work and pursue her hobbies of sewing, knitting, crochet, genealogy and family photo albums. Dorothy was a member of the Goodletsville Methodist Church in Tennessee. In declining health, Dorothy moved to Fairwinds-Sand Creek in Idaho Falls to be closer to her son, Charles Edward Matthews III, and grandchildren, Amanda Leigh Matthews and Andrew Charles Matthews of Idaho Falls, in December, 2000. Her parents; husband, Charles; sister, Margaret Chenoweth; brother, Hardie Fields; and daughter, Dorothy Jean (Gordon) Tanksley, preceded Dorothy in death. Survivors include a sister, Edna Campbell of LaVergne, Tennessee; son, Charles (Patricia); three grandchildren, Deborah (Mike) Lovett of Brentwood, Tennessee, Amanda and Andrew Matthews; and three great-grandchildren, William Henry Morris II of Houston, Sarah and Patrick Lovett of Brentwood. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006, at Fairwinds-Sand Creek, 3310 Valencia Drive, Idaho Falls. Donations for the Prayer Shawl Ministry at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 455 West Sunnyside Road, Idaho Falls, ID 83402, are welcome in lieu of flowers. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Condolences sent online: Barbara Larson I lived at Fairwinds while Dorothy was there. I have discussed Dorothy with friends who also lived there and knew Dorothy and it is the consensus that Dorothy was an unusal person of integrity and graciousness. She will be missed. Barbara Larson
