Dorothy Staples Mahoney, 74, of Ucon, passed away February 28, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, due to complications after surgery. Dorothy was born June 27, 1937, in Tooele, Utah, to Roscoe Benjamin Staples and Elva Skinner Staples. She grew up and attended schools in Tooele and graduated from Tooele High School. She graduated from Stevens Henager Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah and worked for Equitable Life Insurance Company for three years. On November 20, 1959, she married Franklin Edwin Mahoney in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together they have five children, Mark, Cherise, Patty, Lori, and Jileen. They made their home in Ucon. Most of her married life was spent working hard for her family as a wife, mother, and homemaker. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dorothy served various positions in Primary, Sunday School, Young Women, and Relief Society. She loved sewing, cooking, family history, and scrapbooking. Dorothy enjoyed making her own birthday cards for her family and friends. Frank and Dorothy were always very thoughtful and generous in giving to neighbors and friends. Dorothy is survived by her Husband of over 52 years, Frank Mahoney of Ucon, ID; Daughter, Cherise (Chris) Barter of Scottsdale, AZ, Daughter, Patty (Brian) Holt of Spanish Fork, UT, Daughter, Lori Mahoney of Seattle, WA, Daughter, Jileen (Jay) Ward of South Jordan, UT; Brother, Ernest Glen (Karen) Staples of Richland, WA; Sister, Ann (George) Harrell of Tooele, UT, Sister, Judy Staples of West Valley, UT; Seven grandchildren, Tanner, Jacy, and Nick Holt; Chandler, Mark Alan, Monét, and Keean Ward. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Gerald Ross Staples, her parents, and a son, Mark Benjamin Mahoney. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012, at the Ucon LDS Ward, 10854 North 41 East, with Bishop Brad Carlson officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery.
