Dorothy Helen Comstock Lempke, 92, of Idaho Falls, passed away peacefully September 17, 2012, at Mount Vernon Assisted Living Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born August 8, 1920, in Los Angeles, California, to George Martin Comstock and Alveretta Meek Comstock. Her mother, Alveretta, passed away when Dorothy was three months old and her grandmother, Maud Meek, raised her. She grew up in her grandmother’s boarding house in Englewood, California, where she attended Polly High School until 1937. She was working at a shade and blind factory when she met the love of her life, Cyril "Bing" Lempke, who was stationed in California in the Merchant Marines. They were married October 15, 1943, in Los Angeles, California. Dorothy was a wife, mother, and homemaker. After World War II, they moved to Salmon, Idaho, where their son, Chris, was born. From there they moved to Pocatello, where their son, Brant, was born. In the fall of 1957 they moved to Idaho Falls, where they planted their roots and raised their sons.
Dorothy loved camping, fishing, hunting, and especially loved riding her little red motorcycle. She got her biggest smiles when one of her boys would take her for a ride on their Harley Davidsons. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Dorothy lost her best friend and husband of 48 years, Bing, on February 7, 1991. Dorothy carried on until 2006, when she was overtaken by Alzheimer’s Disease and was admitted to Mount Vernon Assisted Living, where she has spent her last few years.
