Dorothy Haff

Dorothy Jane Haff, 89, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away on September 24, 2018, at Promontory Point Rehabilitation.

Dorothy was born to George and Anne Wigton on February 1, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her father was a mining metallurgist, and the family lived in several different intermountain locations as she grew up. She graduated from high school in Carson City, Nevada, attended Colorado Women's College, and later graduated from Idaho State University.

Dorothy met Buff Haff on a blind date set up by his sister, and they were married in Coffeyville, Kansas, in 1949. They had three children, Eric, Janet, and Kris. Dorothy and Buff moved to Idaho Falls in 1960, where they quickly started skiing and exploring the beautiful places all around them. Dorothy had a long career as a teacher at Skyline High School, where she taught Government and Consumer Economics.

One of Dorothy's greatest joys was downhill skiing, and she and Buff were members of the Kelly Canyon Ski Patrol for many years. She held a private pilot's license, loved dogs, and enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, and world travel. She had a keen interest in local, state, and national politics, and was active in the League of Women Voters and as an elections volunteer. She and Buff had been members of the First Presbyterian Church, and later Dorothy became a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Buff Haff, and is survived by her son, Eric (Susan) Haff of McCall, Idaho; daughter, Janet (Dennis) Roubicek of Sandpoint, Idaho; and daughter, Kris Haff of Idaho Falls, Idaho; also three grandsons, Brian Haff of Boise, Idaho; Tim Haff of Middleton, Idaho; and Carl Roubicek of Tucson, Arizona. A family gathering will be held at a later date.

Our deepest thanks to the staffs of Eastern Idaho Medical Consultants, EIRMC, and Promontory Point Rehabilitation for their very kind and professional care during her last weeks.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would have appreciated donations to the Kelly Canyon Ski Patrol.
