DOROTHY ELIZABETH ROBINSON CLAYTON
IONA, ID -- Dorothy Elizabeth Robinson Clayton, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed from mortality due to natural causes on June 29, 2003, at her home on Lincoln Road near Iona, Idaho. She was greatly loved by many here on this earth; she will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Dorothy was born July 19, 1915, in Iona, Idaho, to Grant Elijah Robinson and Sarah Stanger Robinson. Dorothy was the oldest daughter of seven children. She spent her youth near Iona, and attended high school in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dorothy was married to Mark Taylor Clayton on June 9, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They began their married life in Salt Lake City, where they lived until 1944, when they moved to the Seattle, Washington, area, ultimately settling in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle. Shortly after Mark's retirement in 1974, they moved to Dorothy's childhood home on Lincoln Road near Iona, Idaho, to care for Dorothy's father. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings during her life. Dorothy and Mark were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1983.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Taylor Clayton (Born October 19, 1909, in Salt Lake City, Utah; Died January 31, 1982, in Idaho Falls, Idaho) and a grandson, Richard Mark Yeates (Born July 28, 1956, in Salt Lake City; Died September 11, 1962), a brother, Grant Elbert Robinson (Born March 16, 1924, in Iona, Idaho; Died April 5, 1984, in Blackfoot, Idaho) and a sister, Lucille Robinson (Born June 12, 1917, in Iona, Idaho; Died November 11, 1918, in Iona, Idaho). Dorothy is survived by two daughters and a son: Sheila Clayton Yeates (currently residing in Riverton, Utah); Kathleen Clayton Jensen (who, along with her husband Vagn Jensen have resided with Dorothy on Lincoln Road for many years and provided loving and dedicated care to her); and Grant Robinson Clayton (practicing as a Registered Patent Attorney in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah since 1985 and currently residing in Sandy, Utah). Dorothy's brothers and sisters who survive her are: Alfred Joseph ("A. J.") Robinson, Cleo Stanger Robinson Steel, LuDene Robinson Johnson and Donald Stanger Robinson. Dorothy is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Randy Yeates, Sarah Tattersall, Mark Yeates, Susan Ward, Elizabeth Peck, Sarah Hicks, Jeremy Cox, Jacob Clayton, Merinda Clayton, SarahAnn Clayton, Leah Clayton, Dorothy Clayton, Charles W. Clayton, and Jenny Clayton. She is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren.
Graveside Funeral Services to honor Dorothy's memory will be held Thursday, July 3, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at the Iona Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home East Side.
