Dorothy Black

DOROTHY BLACK HAMER, ID -- Dorothy Eames Black, a 91 year old resident of Hamer, Idaho, died at her home in Hamer, surrounded by her family on April 26, 2010. Dorothy was born June 13, 1918, in Milo, Idaho, to Mary Etta Riley. Her mother died when Dorothy was seven years old, so she was raised by her grandparents, Samuel and Martha Eames. She attended school in Osgood and graduated from Bonneville High School. She went to work at Kress in Idaho Falls and then for the Bell Telephone Company in Idaho Falls. She married Farrel Black in Rupert, Idaho, on August 18, 1939. They lived in Hermiston, Oregon; Edgemont, South Dakota; and Mountain Home, Idaho, working on Defense Contracts with her brother-in-law, Boone Pyle, before coming back to Terreton, Idaho. They bought a farm in Terreton, farming there until 1974, when they moved to Hamer, Idaho, to farm and ranch. They sold their farm in 1981 and spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona, while maintaining their home in Hamer for the summer months. Dorothy always had a big garden and a lot of flowers. She helped with the farm by cooking for large crews of men, either at lambing time or on the cow drives. She went back to work at the INEL as a telephone operator for a time, but she always wanted to be home to take care of her family. Survivors include: Husband: Farrel Black, Hamer, ID Son: Farrel K. Black, Idaho Falls, ID Daughter: Renay (Ken) Torgerson, Hamer, ID Grandchildren: Bonnie Wood, Dan Black, Jerry (Masami) Torgerson, Rod (Raquel) Torgerson, Michael (Heather) Torgerson, and Doug (McKensie) Torgerson, and nine Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Etta Riley; her Aunts (that became her sisters), Julie (Warren) Shelton, Ruth (Marvin) Harper, Elaine (Jay) Nickell; an Uncle (her best friend) Morgan (Emma) Eames; her Grandparents, Samuel and Martha Eames; and Daughter-in-law, Janet Black. The family would like to thank Dr. Rodney Bates of Rexburg for his help in Dorothy's care, and to Hospice of Eastern Idaho, and Karen Torgerson for their care. Also, a special thanks to Dorothy Taylor, Tracy Johnson, Alice Worthen, Raeole Russel, and Sharon Burtenshaw for their long hours of care to Dorothy. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue, with Bishop Wade Yearsley of the Hamer LDS Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Senior Citizens West Jefferson, Terreton, Idaho, 83450. ---------------------------------------------------- Condolences received online: Pat & Jim Winborg patwinborg@gmail.com Dear Renay, Butch and family, We were saddened to hear of Aunt Dot's passing.
