Dottie was born March 7, 1924, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Herbert Franklin Felix and Dorothy Abigail Stevens Felix. She grew up in Franklinton, Louisiana, and graduated from high school at age 16 as the valedictorian of her class. Following in her mother and father’s footsteps, she became a talented artist, and enjoyed painting, sewing and crafts of all kinds. She began drawing and designing dresses and wanted to be a fashion designer in New York City, but at age 16 her father would not let her go to such an evil place. She attended Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia for a year. She finished her Bachelors degree at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in December of 1943 at the age of 19, and was listed in the Who’s Who of American Colleges and Universities. While at LSU, she met her husband-to-be, James (Jim) Anderson. They were married on March 24, 1944, but her husband was soon sent to Europe to fight in World War II. This was a hard time for her, because Jim was reported missing in action (MIA) and for 100 days she didn’t know his fate. Upon his return, the injury sustained during the war required them to travel to several different military hospitals around the USA. During this time their first son Scott was born in Springfield, Missouri. They returned to LSU where Jim finished his college degree and their daughter Kim was born. Now they began to live the American Dream. This took them to Houston, Los Angeles, Tulsa (where their son Kip was born), Topeka, Tucson, and even to Saudi Arabia. Finally in the fall of 1962 they moved to Idaho Falls. Idaho Falls grabbed their hearts and became their adopted hometown, and the place where they would retire. Dottie was always very social and enjoyed cooking, arranging parties, and joining clubs such as Newcomers or a local antique club wherever she lived. For most of her life she was an active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority Dottie and Jim enjoyed traveling and went to Europe, Africa, China, and South America. Dottie is survived by son, Bruce Scott (Christine) Anderson of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Kim Ruth Moore of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Kip James (Connie) Anderson of Champaign, IL; 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 64 and a half years. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 14, 2014, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. prior to services. Dottie will be interred at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Boise, Idaho, with her husband.
