RENEE ROBISON
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Dorothea "Renee" Hertzig
Robison, Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away February 16, 2005, of natural
causes.
Renee was born January 27, 1915, in Rexburg, Idaho,
the fifth of seven children of Joseph and Anna Marie Braunig Hertzig.
She spent her early years with her family on a dry farm in Independence,
Idaho, living in a log cabin, until the family moved to Burton, Idaho
where they lived for 30 years. Renee graduated from Madison High School
in 1932.
Renee's lifelong appreciation of reading came from her
mother, a German emigrant, who came to America with Mormon missionaries
when she was 18. Renee's name was from "The Count of Monte Cristo"
which her mother was reading at Renee's birth. From her father, Renee
inherited a passion for dancing and music. (Her children well remember
"The Blue Danube Waltz" as her favorite.)
Renee found her perfect life-partner in Hugh Robison,
a musician, at a dance at the Woodman Hall over the present Rexburg Music
Store. Hugh played clarinet and sax with his own band during the "Big
Band Era." Renee and Hugh married September 18, 1932, and spent 72
years enjoying themselves, their five children and their grandchildren.
Activities which they shared include music, fishing, golf, travel, skiing,
cooking, gardening and entertaining friends. They bought their first house
in Idaho Falls, on 10th Street, in 1950 and together spent 20 years renovating
and remodeling it.
Renee was a highly intelligent, multi-talented and generous
woman, who unselfishly did volunteer work for her church, local schools,
PTA, and various civic organizations, to include ESA and Alpha Zeta Sororities;
YMCA board; Idaho Falls Country Club Ladies Golf Association; United Way
(which honored her with the Group Chairman's Award for her distinguished
campaign leadership); American Festival Ballet; Senior Citizens Board
of Directors; Community Concert Auxiliary; Symphony Auxiliary; and the
Festival of Trees. She was a finalist in the Idaho Falls Jay-C-Ettes "Woman
of the Year" in 1958, and was the Idaho Falls Country Club "Woman
of the Year" in 1977. In 1952 she joined the Idaho Falls Music Club,
and later served as its President; as President of the Past Presidents
Association; and as President of the Idaho Federation of Music Clubs;
as 6th District President, and Member at Large. Her crowning joy was to
be recognized as the Idaho Falls Music Club "Woman of the Year"
in 1984.
First among everything was her family, and her devotion
to Hugh and her children was boundless.
Renee is proceeded in death by her parents, a brother,
Eldon Hertzig; three sisters, Grace Smith, Ruth Daniels, and Leda Hathaway;
and her beloved son, Hughie; a grandson, Michael Robison; a great grandson,
Jason Rhoades; and a son-in-law, Leon Fisher.
She is survived by her husband, Hugh of Idaho Falls;
a sister, Joey McCurdy of Pocatello; a brother, Benny Hertzig of California;
three daughters, Fran Fisher of Pocatello and Elaine Rhoades of Idaho
Falls; and Jane (Brad) Erwin of Salt Lake City; a son, Jack (Dianne) Robison
of Pocatello; and 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
A truly exceptional woman of grace, talent and beauty,
Renee is loved and appreciated, and will remain always in the hearts of
her family and friends.
