Doris VanNoy Roberts Taylor of Idaho Falls, Idaho passed away at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of natural causes. She spent her entire life in the western United States, but mainly in Star Valley, Wyoming and Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was born March 18, 1918, in Thayne, Wyoming to Joseph Franklin Roberts and Florence Edna VanNoy Roberts. She was the fourth child of seven. Doris was raised with her three brothers and three sisters in Thayne. She graduated from Star Valley High School in Afton, Wyoming, in 1936. She met George Anders Taylor at a dance in Swan Valley, Idaho, and was married on June 3, 1946, in Dillon, Montana. They have two daughters, JoAnn Mitchell and Jery Ann Schrade. Doris moved from Thayne, Wyoming to Ogden, Utah, in 1942, at the beginning of World War II, and became the second woman employed by Safeway Food Stores. From there she spent the majority of her life as a waitress in many of the western states, and as a seamstress on the side. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She served in the church in the Relief Society as a visiting teacher and on other committees, as well as teaching quilting classes. She was an excellent seamstress, an avid gardener, a long time coin collector, and a ruthless card player. She is survived by two daughters; one sister, Rhea Miles; six grandsons; eighteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George; her sisters, Mary and Martha; her brothers, Frank, Matt and Griff; and her two sons-in-law, Bud Mitchell and Jim Schrader. Doris was a beacon of light in all the communities she lived; there wasn't anyone that met her that she didn't affect with her wit and humor leaving them with a smile on their face. She was a friend to all she knew and will be deeply missed. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2007, at the Idaho Falls LDS 7th Ward (955 Memorial Dr.), with Bishop Charles Johnson officiating. The family will visit with friends on Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and Monday from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby-Pioneer Cemetery. ---------------------------------------- Condolences received online: Nancy Pitcher I can't believe this is true. It's like part of my heart has died again. I don't have to tell you how much I loved your mom and how grateful I am that you were and are willing to share her with me. A friend when one was needed, a listening ear (never judgmental), a woman for all seasons . . . these just touch on what your mother meant to me. I will carry her forever with me (as I already have) for the remainder of my days. Please know of my love and concern for my "sisters." With all the love and compassion I can gather, Nancy Lance Pitcher Sandra Taylor-Reid sandratr@cox.net Dear Jerry and JoAnn, Our love, our hearts and our minds are there with you at this sad time. We love our dear Aunt Doris so much and always will. We love both of you and our prayers are with you both. Hang on to each other and know that I am there for you, too. Love always, your cousins, Sandy, Judy and family. Marian Traughber Packebush mtp@silverstar.com We were so sorry to hear of Doris' death. She will be greatly missed, I know. Mom said she really enjoyed working with her at the Swan Valley Commissary. Every time I saw Doris, she was smiling. I also remember her and George at the store when I was young. She was a dear. Your family is in our prayers. Marian Traughber Packebush Kitty Traughber Sharon Radford stleon@ida.net I’m not sure if you remember me but I am Ruth VanNoy Champions daughter. I would like to tell you how sorry I am that Mrs. Taylor passed. She was one of the kindest ladies I knew. She was so fun up at the VanNoy reunion. Sorry there wasn't one this year so that my sister and I could have seen her and JoAnn again. She gave us a few pictures of my grandfather John VanNoy. I was very sick at the time of the funeral or I would have been there and my sister Sheril goes south for the winter. Again I am so sorry for your loss.... Sharon Radford
