DORIS L. EMMITT
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Doris L. Emmitt, 80, of Idaho Falls,
passed away December 7, 2003 at her home.
She was born July 1, 1923, in Ogden, Utah, to Robert
Lemuel and Florence Mae Flint King. She grew up and attended schools in
Idaho Falls. She began working as a teenager for Western Union in 1941
and later at the potato seedhouse.
She married Jack Staley in 1940, which ended in divorce.
She married Fred Beckstead in 1944, which ended in divorce. Then in 1949,
she met and married the love of her life, John A. Emmitt, and together
they loved and raised their five children. John passed away December 31,
2000, and our mom continued being the mainstay of the family.
Mom’s greatest joy was being with her family, and
she dedicated her life to all of us. Our mom was a wonderful homemaker,
devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
In 1973, she and John bought the Palisades Lodge in Irwin,
Idaho. Mom was a marvelous cook and operated the restaurant until they
retired in 1984. She was a beautiful singer and yodeler, entertaining
her family and friends for years. Our mom had a special way of making
everyone welcome in her home and was loved by everyone who ever met her.
She will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
She had a wonderful childhood and loved her parents,
brothers, and sister very much. As she had her own children she became
an even more loving person and the love and support shown to us will never
be forgotten.
Her greatest legacy was to leave us with our wonderful
memories of her and the closeness we will have towards each other forever.
She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends, but never
forgotten.
Her hobbies were scrapbooking, needlecrafts, and gardening.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where
she held various teaching positions.
She is survived by her children, Shirley R. Severa, Fred
L (Tammy) Emmitt, and Sandra K. Poole, all of Idaho Falls, and John A.
(Tina) Emmitt, Jr., of Fairview Park, Ohio; 11 Grandchildren; 9 Great
Grandchildren; her sister, Thelma Mae Ashton, of Idaho Falls, and many
loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John,
a daughter, Lori Lynn; two brothers and her parents.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December
11, 2003 at the LDS Ward Building at 2345 West 17 South, formerly Mill
Road, with Bishop Wayne Jensen officiating.
The family will meet with family and friends Wednesday
from 7-8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and for one hour
prior to the services at the church. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery
under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
Life Eternal
(written by Doris in 1965)
Please don’t grieve for me, instead
Remember what I’ve always said
Our Father waits for me up there.
It won’t be lonely, cold or bare,
But beautiful beyond belief
To leave this world will be relief.
This world of bickering and pain.
I’ll just be going home again.
I’m grateful for the years I’ve had
I’ve faced them well, the good and bad.
Our God, in His own infinite ways.
Has guided me through me many days.
Life for the mortal is so uncertain
It’s just a short trip through the curtain.
Where there’s no worry, pain and strife.
But just a beautiful Eternal Life.
So, please, my dears, don’t grieve for me.
I’ve just gone home and my soul is free.
