Donna Wartchow

Donna Viola Elg Wartchow, 85, passed away August 18, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Donna was born March 1, 1930, in New Sweden, Idaho, to John and Olga Johnson Elg. She attended the original New Sweden Elementary School and Shelley High School, where she was a cheerleader. Donna married Robert Ival “Bob” Wartchow August 12, 1951, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They had two sons, Blake and Brian. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she also worked outside the home for Dr. E. L. Thompson, then for US Bank when her children got older. She enjoyed camping, mainly at their lot in Island Park, traveling the country on vacations, and skiing in the winter months. She retired in 1986 when Robert retired from the INL. After retirement, they spent several years being snowbirds, spending a portion of the winters down south in their various fifth wheel trailers and motorhomes. She also served as a volunteer at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for many years. Donna is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert Wartchow, and her sons, Blake (Ruth) Wartchow and Brian (Julie) Wartchow, both of Idaho Falls; two grandchildren, Janiel (Jared) Bishop and Lisa Wartchow; two great-grandchildren, Burkley and Natalee Bishop; and six step-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Walter, Rolf, Elmer "Boss," Lester, Vernon "Curley," and Allan "Shorty" Elg, and one sister, Eileen Bowcutt-Miller. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2015, at the New Sweden Cemetery, 3549 West 35th South, Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Monday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge. Our family would like to thank all the great people from Teton Health Care & Hospice, especially Tina, Lana, and Mickie, whose devoted help was deeply appreciated.
