Donna Rae Nelson Maughan, 73, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away from Leukemia on July 20, 2020, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Donna was born July 29, 1946, in Rupert, Idaho, to Calvin James Nelson and Genevieve Elizabeth Anderson Nelson. Donna was raised as a farmer's daughter in Paul, Idaho. She graduated from Minico High, 1964. She went on to attend Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho where she studied education and graduated in 1966. Donna was an accomplished musician and student, participating in orchestra, student government and FHA.
On June 16, 1966, she married Curtis Clark Maughan in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together they had 7 children, Amy, Todd, Daniel, Tammy, Laura, John and Natalie. Donna was a loving mother who saw each of her children and grandchildren with rose colored glasses. She was quick to praise and never spoke ill of her children, loved ones or strangers. Her mothering love was not limited to her children. She has collected many children that claim her as their "second mom".
Donna loved the Lord and actively served others to show her love of the Savior. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she enjoyed many opportunities to serve her friends and neighbors. She served in Stake and Ward Primaries, Relief Societies, Young Women’s and Sunday Schools. Of all of her callings to serve, she most cherished her experience serving with her husband as a missionary in the LDS Addiction Recovery Program and the Texas Dallas Mission.
Donna will be remembered for her marvelous tea parties, endless service, stubborn determination, generosity, beautiful smile, and sparkling eyes.
Donna is survived by her loving husband, Curtis; her siblings, Judy (Donald) Aiken of Idaho Falls, ID, Kent Nelson of Wasilla, Alaska, Rita (Mike) Schofield of Idaho Falls, ID, Beth (Wayne) Campbell of Idaho Falls; her children, Amy (Nathan) Taylor of Ammon, ID; Todd (Kellie) Maughan of Pocatello, ID; Daniel Maughan, of Ammon, ID; Tammy (Steve) Niederhauser of Clinton, UT, Laura (Douglas) McNiff of Ammon, ID; John (Brooke) Maughan of Draper, UT; Natalie Mahaffey of Ammon, ID; 22 grandchildren; and one great grandson.
